Bobby Jones Fellowship Application Deadline, February 1, 2012

The Bobby Jones Fellowship application deadline has been extended to February 1, 2012.

The fellowship provides funding for one Georgia Tech student to pursue a one-year Master's degree program at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, and one St. Andrews student to pursue a one-year Master's degree program at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

The fellowship is open to Physics or Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Georgia Tech and St. Andrews students who wish to pursue graduate studies in the selected areas of Physics or ECE.

All applicants and interested students are invited to attend an information session on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 6pm in the Undergraduate Studies Resource Room, Clough Commons, Suite 205.

Spring 2012 Glimpse Correspondents Program - DEADLINE EXTENDED

The deadline for the Spring 2012 Glimpse Correspondents Program has been extended to December 20th.

The Glimpse Correspondents Program is an opportunity for writers and photographers who will be living abroad in 2012 to have their work published and recognized in nationally renowned publications. Correspondents receive critical feedback on their writing and photography and develop a portfolio of highly accomplished work. Critically, at a time when many opportunities for emerging writers do not pay, Glimpse Correspondents receive a $600 stipend.

CLS Program Application Now Open!

The 2012 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program application deadline is about a month away – November 15, 2011!

CLS institutes provide fully-funded group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven to ten weeks for U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students. Students may apply for one language, and will be placed at institute sites based on language evaluations after selection. Languages offered: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu.

Petit Scholars Deadline, October 7th!

LinkThe Petit Undergraduate Research Scholars program is a competitive scholarship program that serves to develop the next generation of leading bioengineering and bioscience researchers by providing a comprehensive research experience for a full year. Open to all Atlanta area university students, the program allows undergraduates to conduct independent research in the state-of-the-art laboratories of the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience. Scholars develop their own research project within the term of January to December each year.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals - Application Deadline is December 1


The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX), a yearlong fellowship to study and intern in Germany, is currently accepting applications from your students. CBYX is open to applicants in all career fields without any prior German language knowledge, and is funded by the US and German governments through a grant provided by the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, under the authority of the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961, as amended. The CBYX program covers the costs of and annually provides 75 participants with:

2 months intensive German language training in Cologne, Bremen, Radolfzell, or Saarbruecken

Semester of study at a German University or University of Applied Sciences

5-month internship with a German company in the participant's career field

Homestays with German host families, in shared apartments, and student dorms

Transatlantic airfare, health insurance, and monthly living expense stipends

Various seminars in the US and Germany

Local in-country support throughout the program

CBYX for Young Professionals is open to students in all fields of study, though preference is given to students in vocational, technical, engineering, agricultural, business, and scientific fields. Applicants should have clear career goals and some relevant work experience in their career field, which may include summer, part-time, or internship work. Prior German language knowledge is not required, though it is strongly preferred. Participants must be between the ages of 18-24, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and be US citizens or permanent residents.

German Exchange Scholarships now open!

The DAAD: German Academic Exchange Service has undergraduate as well as graduate scholarship programs available.

For Undergrads: Highly qualified undergraduate students are invited to apply for scholarships funding study, senior thesis research and/or internships in Germany. The goal of this program is to support study abroad in Germany and at German universities. Preference will be given to students whose projects or programs are based at and organized by a German university. Scholarships are available either as part of an organized study abroad program or as part of an individual, student-designed study abroad semester or year.

P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship

Announcing an opportunity for substantial financial support for international female graduate or PhD students. The award is called the International Peace Scholarship (I.P.S.) and it is sponsored by a nonprofit organization called P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization). P.E.O. offers five projects, of which I.P.S. is one.

It is our fondest hope that by helping educate future leaders in other countries we can in some small way foster goodwill, understanding and peace in the world.

The scholarship is up to $10,000 and is renewable one time only. Any current female international student (who has at least one academic year remaining upon receipt of the scholarship in May) is eligible. Also, any newly accepted student, even if she has not yet matriculated, is eligible.

Note that the preliminary application must be filed by December 15th. Applications are available at: www.peointernational.org. Click on the link on the left-hand top of the screen entitled About P.E.O. and its Projects; then International Peace Scholarship Eligibility Form pdf. (Note that the form will become available on August 15th.)

Awards are based on a budget, which the International office uses to determine need. If she qualifies, based on need, P.E.O. International will mail her the full application packet. The budget need not be substantiated until after the student is selected to receive the full application. Selected students submit the full application by January 31st. The scholarship is based not only on need, but also leadership qualities and academics.

British Exchange Scholarships 2011, Due May 31

BUTEX North American Scholarships 2011/12

BUTEX is now accepting applications for its North American Scholarship Programme 2011/12!

The Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the USA or Canada. To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a study abroad or exchange place at a UK university which is BUTEX affiliated. Your study abroad or exchange place must be for the academic year 2011/12 and your place must be for a minimum of one semester.

The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university.

SR Education Group Study Abroad Scholarship, due April 2

Guide to Online Schools provides a new type of financial aid resource with its unconventional study abroad scholarship program. Instead of choosing applicants based on the usual measures of success -- GPA, SAT scores, community involvement, etc.-- their scholarship rewards students for their natural creativity and analytical thinking.

To provide judges with a true understanding of each applicant, he or she must answer four open-ended, personal, and thought-provoking questions. The students whose responses are the most persuasive, compelling, and well-written, as judged by the panel, will be awarded the scholarship prize.

Georgia Tech students are encouraged to apply for Fulbright awards available in 140 countries around the world. Through Fulbright students may 1) do research, 2) a one-year degree program, or 3) be an English teaching assistant.

Seniors and graduate students may apply next fall. Students at all levels are invited to learn about the Fulbright program. Students must be US citizens.

The campus deadline for Fulbright applications is September 16, and students need to work with Dr. Karen Adams this spring (karen.adams@provost.gatech.edu) to begin work on the application. Students are urged to make an appointment with Dr. Adams asap to learn what is needed in a letter of invitation and for preparation of essays.

Study Abroad Scholarships in Turkey for American Minority Students

The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) has a diverse array of scholarship programs that support its educational mission. One of these programs provides up to 100 scholarships to African American, Hispanic American and Native American students who choose Turkey as their study abroad destination.

TCA Scholarships range from $500 to $2,000 per student:
  • $2,000 for a semester or year at a Turkish institution.
  • $1,000 for Turkish language studies at a Turkish institution.
  • $1,000 for summer programs lasting for more than 4 weeks at a Turkish institution.
  • $500 for summer programs lasting up to 4 weeks sponsored by US educational institutions or Turkish institutions.
  • $500 for participants in university/college-sponsored study tours to Turkey.
And these are awarded to college and graduate students who are:
  • U.S. citizens of African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American ethnic origin.
  • Enrolled full time, in good standing at an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • Accepted to a study abroad program or language program at a university in Turkey.
  • Willing to share experiences in Turkey, TRNC or Bosnia Herzegovina with the TCA community and Diversity Abroad.

Golden Key Scholarship, due April 1st

Description: This scholarship assists members who participate in a study abroad program.

Scholarships Available: At least ten $1,000 (USD) awards will be presented each year (at least three for the 15 October deadline and at least seven for the 1 April deadline).

Eligibility: Those eligible are undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate members who are currently enrolled in a study abroad program or will be enrolled the academic year immediately following the granting of the award. The study abroad program cannot have been completed prior to the application deadline date.

Criteria: Academic achievement and relevance of study abroad program to major field of study, as determined by the selection committee.

1. A description of the planned academic program at the host university. Submit no more than 5,000 words.

2. A one-page statement of the relevance of this program to your degree written by the applicant.

3. Confirmation of enrollment in the program.

4. A current and comprehensive official transcript.
